Topic

The European Commission wants to promote data sharing to foster innovation in Europe’s financial sector. This call for proposals targets financial companies seeking to access datasets held by financial supervisors, to test new applications and train AI models.

The objective of this call for proposals is to collect information on what type of data held by supervisory authorities could be useful for financial companies to test new applications and train AI models.

The Digital Finance Platform is a space designed to connect innovative financial companies with national supervisors and to support the scaling up of digital financial services across Europe. One of the main features of this platform is the new Data Hub, a space where financial companies can access supervisory data for training and testing purposes. This project complements national innovation hubs and regulatory sandboxes, as well as private-sector initiatives.

To ensure compliance with confidentiality requirements, the European Commission has decided to build the Data Hub using synthetic data. Synthetic data offers a way for national supervisors to participate in the project without having to make the real data they hold accessible to any third party. The Data Hub will therefore host synthetic datasets that have been created by participating supervisors based on the real data they hold. We are therefore eager to hear your views on which datasets you would like to access.

If you have suggestions for datasets held by supervisory authorities which would be useful for you to develop a current or future financial solution, please write to EU-DIGITAL-FINANCE-PLATFORM@ec.europa.eu by 12h00 CET on 26 April 2024. All proposals are welcome and will be valuable to define which datasets will be made accessible on the platform. Your proposal should set out in detail a specific use case and a solution to be tested. It should describe the datasets that would be needed, and the variables to be prioritised in the synthesisation process. Please note that these datasets must be limited to non-personal data, as well as to datasets that national supervisors in the financial sector hold. Due to the nature of the project and of synthetic data, the datasets available on the Data hub will be very granular and unique, rather than particularly recent or frequently updated.
